The Boy Scouts of America conducts a criminal background check on all new registered leaders or leaders changing positions.  All current adult application forms have an extra sheet called an Adult Background Check Consent Form.  The Council cannot conduct the criminal background check without this form, and adult applications cannot be processed without it.

Please make an extra effort to ensure that the “Background Check Consent Form” is completed when turning in adult applications.  This will make for a smoother re-chartering process in 2009 and reduce the lag time on processing new adults in the fall as well.

Five years ago the Boy Scouts of America began to conduct criminal background checks on all new registered leaders.  At that time an extra notice was printed on Adult Applications asking for consent to conduct the check.  All that was required was the usual signature at the bottom of the application.  Since then a change has occurred in this process.  All current adult applications now have an extra sheet to them called an Adult Consent Form.  If you have adult applications that do not have this extra consent form please dispose of them.
